Their current circulation is anyone’s guess. But this is more than just peeling off the crusty corporate skin to find the sturdy Kirby-by-way-of-Trimpe skeleton underneath: Scioli’s work is always weirder than that. You can do a search in Google for the companies you're considering and find testimonials -- good and bad -- from authors who've used the services. Some of the founders' studios came to resemble separate publishers, each with several ongoing series set in a shared universe. (At first there were indications of an "Image Universe" shared by all the studios, but these decreased as the studios developed their own directions.) The use of freelancers to write or illustrate series that were owned by the Image partners led to criticism that some of them had reproduced the very system they had rebelled against, but with them in charge instead of a corporation.

Please don't take this as an overly negative response. Above is an ad from my archive, for a group of Pacific issues that were either never published or ended up coming out from a different company. What part of this do some people not understand? (Here's one of the very first published comic stories ever drawn by superstar artist Stuart Immonen, later famed for his work on Superman, Supergirl, etc.) While there is little historical data on the subject—the total release numbers Diamond Comic Distributors provides only goes back to July of 2013—if you asked most readers, retailers, publishers, creators and industry pundits, they’d agree: we’re at a pinnacle in terms of total titles being released, at least for the modern era.

Not to mention the Chris Claremont and Jim Lee run on "X-Men", which was ok but did not live up to expectations. If you knew him back then, you won't be surprised to learn that he was the staffer who made it to the railroad tracks all five times with Dan O’Neill. There’s no easy fix for how to address just how profoundly self-published comics are excluded by the rest of the industry when it comes to recognition, but having a serious conversation about how we talk about publishers is a great place to start.

THE WALKING DEAD by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore & Charlie Adlard. Think of yourself and everyone you meet as characters, each with their own backstory, arc, and subplot. But be warned they reject 90-95% of what is submitted to them. You can't do a fancy matte cover (yet), but the books look and feel like "real" books. There's a wish fulfillment thing going on there, too unlike most heroes, Batman has no powers and relies only on his wits, cunning, and hard work to hone his body and fitness.

But multi-media rights aside, a number of books don’t seem to make the creators anything. Image's organizing charter had two key provisions: Image would not own any creator's work; the creator would. You can get The Walking Dead #1 free on the Image app and on the Image Website. That’s a good place to start, but it does little to explain how the series managed to last past six issues. Did You Know?: One of Alpha's landmark achievements was tracking and capturing Adolf Hitler back in the past and subsequently returning him to the future to stand trial for his crimes.

Pants On Fire Press publishes picture, middle-grade and young adult books. TopCow temporarily split from Image when Silvestri had a conflict with co-founder Rob Liefeld. Jesse wrote last month's one shot story Shotgun Opera. an untold WW2 adventure of Sgt. I'd also recommend searching around for digital-friendly web comic publishers like Dog Star Comics, Eyemelt, Modern Tales, and Graphic Smash. We didn’t wait for it to come out and prove it’s worth and then get some celebrity chef to write his own crime/food comic.
