From thrash to fusion to death metal and everything in between, metal has explored the depths of every type of music. Just imagine someone hacking his arm off with a spoon. We could be related but I don't know yet. "Dr G": The first time I saw GCS was at a small club in Atlanta in 1973. During this period, piano was added to the background of jazz music, creating an entirely new sound known as Chicago Style jazz. By the latter half of the decade, larger jazz-based orchestras had become popular and the collective improvisation to be found in dixieland was going out of style and restricted to smaller groups. While some prog fans can find the gregarious Italian vocal style challenging at first, newbies are encouraged to simply stick with it for a while.

Pullen played on Murray's Shakhill's Warrior. A number of young white musicians who would become stars in the 1930s, like clarinetist Benny Goodman, trombonists Jack Teagarden and Glenn Miller, and cornetist Red Nichols, began their careers working in dance bands in the 1920s. In jazz there is a constant pushing of the envelope, experimenting, going out on a limb, based more on sound then tradition. There's also a sense that the often intense yet danceable polyrhythmic qualities of the music have created a larger audience for jazz-something visceral to go with the cerebral.

The folk process of apprenticeship is both in-depth and gradual, involving practice and trial-and-error, involving both verbal and hands-on instruction, as the apprentice slowly and deliberately learns the lore and history of the tradition being studied. No musical notation has yet been devised that accurately describes the feel of an improvised performance. Other bands explored the space rock sound for a limited time period only. Passages without discernable tempo changes are the norm in European marching band and folk dance music, the West African heritage, and pre-1960s jazz.
